  • Blowin’ in the Wind

We spent two weeks in Tucson, walking in the desert, visiting Christie and Jim, and Dotty and Bob, and just enjoying the sun.

The wind started blowing the day before we left Tucson — and continued to blow like crazy across New Mexico and Texas!

We stopped in San Antonio and went to the River Walk. I wouldn’t know, because I was in charge of guarding the mohome!

    Lost in the Fog

I loved going to Padre Island by Corpus Christi! I love running on any beach, but it was hard to see the water cuz it was so foggy !

    Looking for Space

Again, I heard we went to the Johnson Space Center, but who in the world needs more space than you can find in Texas? Seriously!

Finally, dinner at Galveston, Texas marked our last night in Texas!

We’re on our way to the Northeast! See ya in Asheville, North Carolina!

  • Gleanings for the Hungry

What a busy week we’ve had here at Gleanings! We’re right across the road from a tennis-ball tree grove! (Hhhmmmm! Turns out they’re oranges, NOT tennis balls! Sad!) Gleanings’ mission is to feed the hungry through the love of God! They do this by partnering with farmers who donate their produce, processors who dry it, volunteers who mix it into soup base and package it, and companies who transport it to places like Guatemala, Venezuela, and North Carolina! In the summertime, they get the extra peaches and nectarines from the orchards near here. Then college students volunteer to prepare the fruit for drying in the sun and then package it to send along with the soup base. Everyone here is a volunteer, even the full-time staff!

My job this week has been to guard the ladies in the quilting room. The quilting project was originally started to make gifts for the holocaust survivors in Israel. Now it has expanded to send comforting quilts made with love along with the soup and peaches. Here’s just one of the 35 quilts the team made this week. These quilts are going to go to the flood victims in North Carolina.

We got to pray over two trucks this week! The first one went to Swaziland in Africa to an orphanage. This one is full of quilts and other donations for the Ukrainian refugees in Israel. When a truck is ready to go, everyone here stops what they’re doing to come pray!

Here’s the field where the peaches and nectarines are dried in the sun. I’ve never seen that because I always come here in winter! I would NOT want to be here when it’s 110 degrees! Whew!

This is a beautiful spot, and we get to meet some really nice people from all over the world! The permanent staff includes folks from Switzerland, Uzbekistan, Latvia, Canada, and the United States. This week we met volunteers from California, Canada, Colombia, and Inner Mongolia! That’s it for this week! More stories later!

  • Gettin’ my treats on Route 66

We left Gleanings on Saturday morning, February 8 and drove to Amboy, California, which is on historic Route 66. Yeah, that’s me in the middle of the highway! (What were my parents thinking?)

Just past Barstow on Route 66, we stopped at Roy’s Motel, Cafe, and Gas station in Amboy, California. The Motel and Cafe are just things to look at now, but the gas station still operates and has a gift shop. It’s been used as a set for lots of movies when a lone gas station in the desert is needed.

You probably thought I went to London, England next, but I didn’t! This bridge was brought to Lake Havasu City, Arizona from London, though! They disassembled it there, marked each piece, sent it here, and reassembled it! Kinda like Legos on a giant scale!

We spent one day in Kingman, Arizona. It was a really big city on Route 66 many years ago. We toured their amazing Arts and History Museum and the Route 66 Museum there. We met some really nice folks who own a gluten-free bakery — no dog treats, tho, so how good can they be?!

Quartzsite, Arizona is just a wide spot in the desert with a buzzillion motor homes and quads all over the place. The best part was the full moon sky — and then the moon was still there the next morning. We have such creative fighter pilots in our Air Force, huh?

Here’s a little something for you to read while we travel to Tucson, Arizona! See ya soon!

  • Henry’s Grand Tour Begins!

Hi! I’m Henry Higgins, the Havanese puppy dog adventurer! I’m just beginning a grand tour of the USA and I’m new to blogging. I love to travel, and I’m excited to tell you my stories!

Who knew Redding, California would have such an amazing sight as the World’s Largest Sundial? We were so impressed with this huge steel foot bridge that spans the Sacramento River.

This is actually day 8 of our tour! We left Post Falls, Idaho on Thursday, January 16,2025 in our Itasca Motorhome, where the temperature was like 20 degrees. It wasn’t much warmer in Puyallup, Washington, where we got to visit with our family — Wayne, Stephanie and Klayton, Jillian and Justin, Jeremy, Kloie, Abbie, and Lizzie. It was wonderful getting to catch up on all their news!

We’ve been really enjoying a few days thawing out in Redding. Today it was in the 70s! Sorry I’m not in these pics — we were driving when they were snapped!

    Leaving Post Falls

    Mount Shasta

We’ll be heading out of Redding on Sunday! I’ll have more stories for you then! See ya!
